Why Choose a Local Wiltshire Doula?

Frequently Asked Questions

Pregnancy, birth and the early weeks with a new baby can be exciting, emotional, overwhelming and everything in between. You don’t have to navigate it all alone.

I’m Jacqueline, a Nurturing Birth-trained doula based in Chippenham, providing warm, individualised antenatal, birth and postnatal doula support across Wiltshire.

Whether you’re preparing for your first baby, planning a home birth, considering your birth options, preparing for a caesarean, or simply wondering how on earth you’re going to manage those first few weeks at home, I’m here to walk alongside you.

My role isn’t to tell you how you should give birth or parent your baby. It’s to help you feel informed, supported and confident in the choices that are right for you and your family.

Preparing for birth can sometimes feel like entering an entirely new world.

Appointments, birth plans, pain relief, induction, caesarean birth, feeding, newborn care, there can be an enormous amount of information to take in.

My antenatal support gives you time and space to explore your options without judgement.

Together we can look at things such as your birth preferences, birth physiology, comfort measures, pain-relief options, preparing your birth partner, caesarean birth, induction, feeding and preparing practically and emotionally for life after your baby arrives.

The aim isn't to create a perfect birth plan. It's to help you go into birth feeling informed, prepared and supported, whatever path your birth ultimately takes.

As your birth doula, I provide continuous emotional and practical support during labour and birth.

I can support you whether you're planning a home birth, birth centre or hospital birth, and whether your preferences include an unmedicated birth, epidural, induction or caesarean.

There isn't one "right" way to give birth.

My role is to help create a calm, reassuring environment around you, support your birth partner and help you understand your options so that your voice remains at the centre of your care.

And when you reach that inevitable "I can't do this" moment?

I'll be right there reminding you that you can.

We spend so much time preparing families for birth, yet often remarkably little preparing them for what comes afterwards.

Those early days and weeks can be beautiful; but they can also be exhausting, emotional, relentless and lonely.

Postnatal doula support is about caring for you as well as your baby.

That might mean holding your baby while you shower or sleep, making you something to eat, helping with older children, providing practical support around the home, talking through your birth experience, supporting feeding or simply being a reassuring presence when everything feels a bit much.

There is no set formula. We look at what you need that day.

Because sometimes what a new mother needs most isn't another piece of advice. It's someone asking:

"What can I do for you?"

One of the most important parts of my philosophy as a doula is that this is your pregnancy, your baby and your birth.

I'm not there to persuade you towards a particular type of birth.

  • I support families planning home births.

  • I support hospital births.

  • I support epidurals.

  • I support physiological births.

  • I support inductions.

  • I support caesarean births.

Good doula support isn't about achieving a particular kind of birth. It's about helping you feel heard, respected, informed and supported throughout your experience.

Having a doula doesn't replace your partner quite the opposite.

Your partner knows and loves you in a way I never could. I bring knowledge, experience, reassurance and a calm presence.

Together, we can make a pretty powerful team.

I can also help your partner understand what is happening during labour, suggest ways they can support you and give them opportunities to eat, rest or simply gather themselves when they need to.

Having a local doula means working with somebody familiar with the area and the maternity services available to local families.

I support families giving birth across Wiltshire and surrounding areas and can help you explore your options, including home birth, alongside and freestanding midwifery units, and hospital maternity care.

I've also created resources specifically for families navigating pregnancy and birth locally.

I'm Jacqueline, founder of Bloom With Jacqueline.

My approach to doula care is warm, practical, nurturing and completely non-judgemental.

I'm also a mum of three, and my own experiences of pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period are a huge part of why I believe so strongly that mothers deserve a village around them.

You weren't supposed to do all of this alone and asking for support doesn't mean you're not coping.

Sometimes having the right person beside you can completely change how an experience feels.

What areas of Wiltshire do you cover?

I'm based in Chippenham and support families throughout much of Wiltshire, including Chippenham, Corsham, Calne, Melksham & Malmesbury as well as surrounding villages. I also cover parts of South Gloucestershire and the Bath area.

Can I hire you just for antenatal support?

Yes. You don't need to book birth support to work with me. Antenatal and postnatal support can both be booked separately.

Do you support home births?

Yes. I support families planning home births as well as births in maternity units and hospitals.

Will a doula replace my birth partner?

Absolutely not. My role is to support both you and your birth partner. Your partner brings their relationship with and knowledge of you; I bring doula support, reassurance and practical experience.

Do you support caesarean births?

Yes. Doula support isn't limited to physiological or unmedicated birth. I can support you in preparing for a planned caesarean or navigating an unexpected change to your birth plans.

Do you offer remote doula support?

Yes. I also offer remote antenatal and postnatal support to families across the UK via video, telephone and messaging.

Based in Chippenham, I support families throughout Wiltshire and surrounding areas, including:

Chippenham • Corsham • Calne • Melksham • Malmesbury  and surrounding villages.

I also cover parts of South Gloucestershire and the Bath area, depending on location and the type of support required.

Not sure whether I cover where you live? Please get in touch - I'm always happy to chat.
